Barn to Residence Conversion Great Falls, VA

The firm converted an abandoned 1930s dairy barn to a residence for our client. The living spaces were located on the second level to take advantage of the 19 foot high barn ceiling. Extra light was brought in by the addition of large dormers along the sides of the gambrel roof. The silo was adapted as a library and office.

The lower level was reserved for bedrooms and private family spaces. A connection was added to the former Milk Room to create a cabana, additional bedroom and bathroom. The two acre site allowed for a circular driveway, and retention of some major trees. Pieces of early 20th century farm equipment were used as landscape features. A separate garage was requested by the client to preserve the essential features of the barn style residence.

This project has been featured in several books and homes tours.
